Wii Drawing Tablet – the Wackiest Peripheral for the Wii?

Wii Drawing TabletDo you stare at the Wii Remote and think of the possibility for an advanced bowling ball or fishing rod perhaps? Picture it being a part of a drawing tablet. The Wii Drawing Tablet has this set-up, is just what I tried and it’s like how Mario Paint Wii may well be.

Design of Wii Drawing Tablet

Also known as the uDraw Studio – Game and Tablet, this new gadget from game publisher THQ is also bundled with painting software. The tablet is partially a glorified shell for the Wii Remote. The user plugs the Remote control into the Wii drawing tablet through the jack that’s basically used to plug in Wii’s Nunchuk. This Wii Drawing Tablet may also be utilized as a tilt controller when gripped with both hands.

The drawing tablet’s better use, however, is as an art expansion for your Wii Drawing Tablet. By plugging a Remote in, it turns into an interactive drawing panel that supports a specially made stylus with a pressure-sensitive tip plus a rocker switch beneath the tips of the middle finger and index finger.

The peripheral itself looks polished but feels sturdy. Its stylus is comfortable and gives that natural feel when holding it, just like a pen or paintbrush. I didn’t have much trouble to become accustomed to the verity that, not like the tracking pad of a laptop, the surface of the uDraw Studio – game and Wii Drawing Tablet was utilized in the painting series as a balanced depiction of my digital art. This means that I need to adjust and if I place the stylus in the top right corner of the drawing surface, the paintbrush indicator will  appear in my canvas’ top right area too. It’s not a problem at all, but rather an adjustment.

I am left-handed but I didn’t find it difficult using the Wii drawing tablet’s stylus with the help of the wired link that shoots out of the tablet’s mid-bottom area. The remote buttons of the Wii Drawing Tablet are pretty difficult to get into since my dominant left hand holds the stylus, but it isn’t a big deal at all.

Conclusion:

I am pretty skeptical with the recent Wii peripherals as many of them look like comedy cases. The Wii Drawing Tablet or uDraw Studio Game Tablet however, is different from the bunch. This one feels good to hold and use, and bears that strong potential for the drawing-based applications and games. Let’s just be hopeful this new peripheral finds a good audience and that THQ will support it well to max out its promising capabilities.
