The EN-EL14 as Nikon 3100 Battery Grip

With just one look, it’s as if the battery grip screams “I belong!” – Nikon 3100 Battery texture is dead-on and fits underneath the Nikon 3100 tightly, with just a few seconds of play before screwing it to fit snugly. But just by holding the Nikon 3100 battery, you will feel that the grip alone has a slimmer plastic shell compared to the camera body. While this isn’t a big deal for some users, it may still feel different at first as you switch from parallel or horizontal mode to vertical shot. It’s quite similar to the disparity felt when carrying a Nikon and then a Holga, in that it feels like a toy. The grip portion is also a bit too stout and square-shaped. It’s evident that there’s still room for improvement in making it more ergonomic, even just a bit similar to the actual Nikon D3100 battery . In this case, it also gives that toy-like impression again. However, despite its feel, one important factor which could have earned it more appreciation is if it came with integrated command dials.
As for the battery door, it feels a bit loose, but not as much as the SD card door of the camera. This can be quite irritating, but not necessarily a deal crasher.

Nikon 3100 BatteryThe Nikon 3100 battery grip has a signal cable which goes into the GPS port of the body. Nikon 3100 Battery comes very handy as it doesn’t involve configuring and instead simply plug it and play. One drawback though is the flaps which supposedly protect the ports are gaping open. This can be a problem as dust can freely get inside the ports for sure. The Nikon 3100 battery isn’t to be blamed for this, because in the in the first place, the camera doesn’t really have normal signal linkers. Nevertheless, the battery pack works just like it is advertised. A simple half press starts Auto Focus while full presses capture the shot. If you’re wondering about experiencing little delays due to the cable use, then don’t worry as the Nikon D3100 battery doesn’t cause any delay.

Wrap Up

In general, the EN-EL14 Nikon D3100 Battery isn’t a bad battery grip at all. Especially that not many battery grips are available for the Nikon D3100. After all, you would want to take something that you can get than nothing at all. The Nikon D3100 may not be a whole great blend of function and design, but it really does serve its purpose very well as of present. It shall definitely be a good choice for us until someone finally creates a battery grip with better overall quality.
